Spring Fling 2013

spring_fling_logo_360

Hi all and welcome to my part in the Whims and fancies 2013 Spring Fling blog hop.

I chose today because it’s my Birthday :) (and I’m not likely to forget that date :P ) Anyways I spent a lot  of time thinking what represents Spring for me. the smell of new grass and rain and the sun being up when I get up but none of these things is something you can paper piece :P   I finally decided to follow my spring/summer blog hop tradition and make a bird.

It is said in Iceland that when you hear the song of the Heiðlóa (pluvialis apricaria) spring has come.

Time for an announcement

not all banner

All that is gold does not glitter,

Not all who wander are lost;

The old that is strong does not wither,

Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

From the ashes a fire shall be woken,

A light form the shadows shall spring;

Renewed shall be blade that was broken,

The crownless again shall be king.

This is The poem that sticks with me when thinking about The Lord Of The Rings. It is probably my favorite of JRR Tolkiens poems (the ones I have read that is) So when it came to finding a name for our new BOM Project to follow ‘There and back again’.  ‘Not All That Wander Are Lost’ was really (to me) the logical thing to name it.

Starting January 4th 2013 Fandom In Stitches will be hosting another Block of the month project this time based on Lord of the rings by JRR Tolkien. Every first Friday each month through out 2013 I will post new patterns. Yes I said Patterns!

Most months there will be three but some months there will only be one pattern but then it will be bigger than the others.

At the end of the year you should have 29 different patterns and instructions how to finish your quilt.

We have a few more designers this time than last time, we have our original 4 Jennifer Ofenstein, Michelle Thompson, Schenley Pilgram and me Lilja Björk Sigurdórsdóttir.

then we have 3 new amazing additions to the team.  Soma Acharya , Regina Grewe and Breanne Cremean.

We all hope you will join us on this wonderful adventure over the next 12 months. and I look forward to seeing all your unique versions of this new quilt.

See you all over on Fandom In Stitches on January 4th with the first post of Not All Who Wander Are Lost BOM

Halloween blog hop

Hi and welcome to day 15 of whims and fancies Halloween blog.
For all the new people I’m happy to meet you and to the old readers welcome back and sorry for the quiet that has been around for a while. I’ve been moving out of my parent’s place, got a full time job (I’ve not had a full time job for almost 10 yrs) and been waiting for over a month to get my internet connected (still not connected btw).

Anyways, Halloween is one of my favorite holidays even if it isn’t really celebrated here in Iceland.
I have always loved scary stories and movies :) It should therefor not be a surprise that my block is quite a bit darker than most of the others in the blog hop.

The Rising

I call this The Rising and like the others in the blog hop its 10″x10″

I also made a border to go with it which I call flying candy corn border it’s a variation on the flying geese :) each part of them are 1″x5″ and sewing 2 together makes a border around one 10″ block (with added cornerstones)

Here is how it would look finished using EQ7 since I haven’t had the time or energy to get it finished in time.

I hope you like my block and do browse my patterns pages you might find something fun to make :)

see you soon and Happy crafting

About Time

I think it has been quite long enough without a new pattern around here :)
So this morning I looked over the fandom in stitches requests page and picked out something nice and easy to make.

So here is the newest edition to the comics section

Marvel

MARVEL is a 5″x10″ pattern and is quite fast and easy. Just perfect for a quick sewing before heading back out into the sun.

Happy sewing
