The Hunger Games

I listen to a lot of audiobooks while I sew. But very few have captured me like the Hunger games did. I literally just couldn’t stop listening to them until I had finished the whole series. So being up in the middle of the night listening to audiobooks what else is there to do but draw new patterns.

So I drew up these 3 patterns that are based on the covers of the 3 books. I know there are already versions of these up on FIS and those are amazing. But I really wanted to make something more detailed. For one I feel the circle around them stands for so much.

Like forThe Hunger Games I feel it stands for the fence around the districts and the cage that the Hunger games arena is.

For Catching Fire like the first it stands for the cage. But it also stands for the target that Catniss is now that she defied the Capitol. (Intentionally or not)

Then in Mockingjay the ring is broken, shattered around the Mockingjay. Standing for braking free of the Capitol and the shattering of old ways. And perhaps having your world shattered and broken as well.

These are all 10″ and are in the improved Patterns pages that are now sorted by categories. The Hunger Games are in the sci-fi and fantasy section

I really don’t doubt that there will be a lot more Hunger Games patterns coming in 2012.
Also if you haven’t already you really should pick up a copy of The Hunger Games and start reading. It really is the best thing since Harry Potter 😀

may the odds be ever in your favor

Just reminding everyone that there is a new Block today on There and back again a Hobbit block of the month over on Fandom In Stitches. This is my first block in the TABABOM but definitely not the last 😀

and for those looking for more new fandom patterns I have a big post coming later in the week (probably Friday) with a few new patterns.

And then I’m going to spend the weekend testing and finalizing 2 new Rudolph themed patterns. Those should hopefully be up early next week so you’ll have some time to make them before Christmas comes along 😀

Santa Claus is coming to town

he’s been reading a list and checking in twice.
and probably thinks that I’m very very nice 😀

santa is here and he is 10″ to match Rudolph

I should probably add that they eyes are not paper pieced. I embroidered mine but you can of course stencil or applique or even use a button or beads for the eyes.

and now I’m heading to bed since it’s after midnight and I’ve been working on him most of the evening.

I hope you all enjoy

SewCalGal’s 2011 Christmas Quilt Show

If you follow my blog you must know that I love Christmas. And I love quilting. Of course that brings on a lot of Christmas themed quilts. So when Jennifer pointed out to me the SewCalGal’s Christmas Quilt Show I knew I had to participate 😀

First I bring you ‘Jólasveinakvæði’ (or the Yuletide lads quilt) witch I designed and made before last Christmas.
It is based on an old Icelandic folk tale about 13 brothers who now days serve as kind of an Icelandic Santa’s.

Jólasveinakvæði

I also made a small table runner from some of my yuletide collection test pieces

Next up is Tree Trimming a design from Sewhooked Witch I made for my grandparent’s wedding anniversary (December 23d) last year.

Tree Trimming

My Christmas project this year is what I call ‘Sue got mail’ This little wall-hanging has pockets to hold my Christmas cards (once they start arriving) again these are patterns from Sewhooked

I’m also working on patterns based on the classic christmas cartoon Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer. And am planing on making placemats from these 🙂

Gríla

Gríla is the mother of the Yuletide lads. It is said that she collected naughty children in her bag and took them to her cave where she cooked them in a huge pot for all her children. (13 yuletide lads and 80 trolls)

Gríla
Gríla is 7″ 🙂

Jólakötturinn

This is the the Yuletide Cat

Jólakötturinn - the Yuletide cat

It is said that if you don’t get new clothing for Christmas (it is enough to get a small thing like a sock) you ‘go to the Yuletide cat’. He was a giant of a cat bigger than most people and he really likes the taste of humans 😛 (but apparently only those that wear old clothes)

95 – Lightning McQueen

Every day is a good day for a new pattern, right?

I was playing around with some more cars patterns the other night when I couldn’t sleep. This one came around two in the morning 😛

Cars 95 is 10″ and I think it would make a marvelous banner on a little boy’s or girl’s (or your) wall.

my other Disney patterns can be found on the patterns page
